A compounding pharmacy - or compound pharmacy - is a pharmacy that makes certain medicines from scratch. Most pharmacies just sell premade medication that have arrived at the pharmacy beforehand. For a specific medication, pharmacists combine the needed ingredients to create it.  At Dexter Pharmacy of Plano, our pharmacists actually tailor medication for every individual patient and their unique needs.

Yes, licensed compounding pharmacies and pharmacists are subject to strict state and federal regulations, just like traditional retail pharmacies. Compound medicines are safe and legal when prescribed by state boards of pharmacy in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The cost of covered prescriptions will vary depending on the plan you have. You may pay a copay, or your medicine may be subject to deductible and coinsurance.
